Fashion Dolls 101

  Just when you thought they couldn’t get any more festive, the Barbie micro minis are pulling out all the stops with new accessories for the big America250 4th of July Celebration! It’s All in the Details The little micro minis have had some makeovers to their outfits. From left to right: The brunette ponytail 2026 mini has had her top painted with red stripes, a red bracelet, and red lipstick added and found a sweet navy blue shrug to wear. The blond 2026 ponytail had her skirt painted red instead of pink, has red lipstick and a cute black shoulder bag. The 2025 blonde ponytail has a flag purse and a red, white and blue shawl to match her outfit. The 2025 brunette had her top painted red to go with her blue pants, as well as new red lipstick, and the plump 2026 mini had her purple skirt and pendant painted blue.  A “before” shot of some of the girls.  It’s a fun challenge trying to find or make accessories for such tiny girls, but every success is enjoyable   Happy...

 The little Barbie Micro minis have been busy preparing for America250. Starting with Memorial Day, the small plastic divas have been decorating with red white and blue, and now they are mostly wearing the same patriotic colors. Several of the 2026 micro minis are wearing different shades of blue, so more photos will be coming closer to July 4th   Their adorable and very patriotic house came from the Home Store.  This photo was taken at their Memorial Day shindig when someone forgot to write the article. But as you can see, the girls have really enjoyed their patriotic home and all the patriotic holidays so far! And they are really looking forward to Flag Day and a HUGE patriotic 4th of July for the semiquincentennial!!! Happy America250 ! It’s one month until July 4, 2026!!!   Yesterday I took photos of the small Let’s Pretend Playsets for small dolls. I got these playsets just for two of the accessories which I thought would work with the tiny Barbie Macro Minis.  As promised, here are two of the Barbie Micro Minis using the purses from the Let’s Pretend Playsets as handbags and totes. You can see the scale isn’t bad for a larger handbag for the small dolls, and they badly need accessories! I have even taken to painting the small figures to give them some wardrobe changes, as well as making them shrugs and belts from yarn and ribbon. So you can see why I am excited to actually give them handbags in an appropriate scale!  Next I will be testing the “64 oz” tumblers from the same playsets to see how well they do.  The other night I noticed these little dolls for the umpteenth time at Dollar Tree. I have not been remotely interested them… until this week.  Then I noticed the little handbag would be the perfect size for a briefcase or tote for the Barbie Micro Minis (photos coming later). So I thought an orange bag might be nice for fall. But then I thought a green one would be nice for spring and summer…and St Patrick’s Day.  In addition, the “Stanley” tumbler, while on the large size for the Minis, may actually display well as an oversized tumbler.  And the little dolls actually grew on me. I don’t see them becoming something I will photograph or play with again, but who knows? With their pop on plastic clothes and lemon heads, they might just grow on me.  Doll playsets come with 10 plastic pieces. $1.75 each. 

 The newest collection of Barbie Micro Minis have hit stores like Dollar Tree, and, yes, they are super cute! Some people describe them as Barbie cake toppers but they are sold in the toy aisle and are much more versatile than mere cake decorations! There are eight new styles to choose from as well as various body and hair colors types to collect.   Previously published on March 28 Because I am fascinated with these little plastic figures of Jesus that keep turning up everywhere, I ordered my own set to hand out. I have collected quite a few figures in stores but I hadn’t seen this style before.  These little figures have a fancier, fuller sash that comes in red, yellow, green, teal, and hot pink  The Jesus figure has a yellow (gold) halo and a yellow (golden) cross   Because my church is getting ready for our big Easter egg hunt, I figured I would donate some of these little plastic figures to go in the colorful plastic eggs. But I am definitely keeping a set for myself! Easter is just around the corner! These are so cute stuffed in Easter eggs! 

Faith and begorrah! It’s St. Patrick’s Day !☘️  For fun, I bought two of the little micro mini Barbies and painted their dresses because it is super hard to make clothes and dress them although I have had some success. But for Valentine’s Day and Saint Patrick’s day, I painted the ponytail Barbie’s dress red for Valentine’s Day and green for St. Paddy’s Day. Here are the results. I do plan to finish out the strap on the dress so the white no longer peeks through   I made yarn shawls for both girls and gave my St. Patty’s Girl a ribbon bow.   Snowmageddon hit Nashville over a week ago, and we are still reeling from it. Some folks, including myself, were snowed in for five days or more with no power—no heat… With temperatures around 5° some evenings and 10 or 12° during the day, and stranded icebound on a steep hill, what else was I supposed to do except get the Barbie micro minis and pose them outside in the snow? The micro minis come dressed for summer, I was able to make them little shawls out of trim, and ribbon. However, not all of them got ribbon shawls, but they didn’t seem to mind, because they had two campfires to keep them warm.  Detail view showing ribbon shawls and campfire.   The little shed and the two campfires are on sale at Michael’s now. The old general store was found on a trip many years ago. And all but one of the Barbie Micro Minis are at Dollar Tree.   You can’t deny it! It’s beginning to look a LOT like Christmas all over town, and the Barbie Micro Minis have been decorating and getting ready for Christmas 2025.  From hanging lights to hanging a wreath and putting out the festive decorations, this little town is ready for Christmas. There is caroling, baking and all sorts of merriment going on in a magical town where it can both snow and be 79° at the same time!  Merry Christmas from all the Barbie Micro Minis! 

 Deb’s Fantastical Frames had a display set up at the 10th Annual Handmade Nashville Holiday Market craft fair in Bellevue, TN today. Unfortunately, a storm was rolling in and people were packing up early.  I caught Deb on her way to her vehicle and snapped three photos to share of the beautiful 3-D fairy displays she makes from frames and boxes. Each mixed-media display is complete, but if you know me, you know I love the Barbie micro minis and the “You Can Be Anything” Barbie minis, so I was just itching to drop a couple of minis in each display for fun. Note to self:  keep a Barbie mini on hand at all times for moments like these.  “ I just feel like my frames are a window into a magical fairy world where each frame tells a story of its own,” Deb says about her creative work.  Frames average   $125 for an ornate or large frame and $85 for ones like the little boy fishing.  ~ The Little Barbie “You Can Be Anything” Minis Celebrate Thanksgiving & the End of Fall ~ The tiny Barbie “You Can Be Anything” mini figures had a nice Thanksgiving gathering at the Pumpkin Patch Farm and the Black Cat Diner. It’s the end of pumpkin season as Thanksgiving celebrates the bountiful harvest and the last of the fall colors   Various professions were represented: coach, hairdresser, astronaut, skateboarder, director, veterinarian, homemaker, chemist and more.  The Black Cat Cafe served traditional turkey and dressing Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings for lunch and dinner.   Now the girls are busy getting ready for Christmas and winter. Pumpkin Patch Village The little Barbie Micro Minis are hosting a Halloween Party. Pumpkin Patch Village was decorated for fall with pumpkins everywhere.  Pop Star Barbie (back right) Performs for the Micro Minis Pop Star Barbie was on hand to perform for the crowd, and Black Cat Cafe hosted a costume party.   The little Barbie “You Can Be Anything” career minis are ready for fall and all things autumn. They are celebrating fall in their pumpkin patch with cute miniature buildings found at Michael’s. The little pumpkin house lights up! In an earlier article I mentioned my first unsatisfactory attempts at sewing for the little Barbie Micro Mini figures  and said I had some ideas for improvement. Here is my first attempt at serious sewing for the minis.  Using delicate lace fabric and a very thin ribbon, I gathered my scrap of lace at the top before sewing it to this thin pink satin ribbon. Think thin. Think delicate. Think tiny.  In case you missed my very first attempts, they were just scraps of ribbon that looked like this: This skirt is better made, sturdier and will be able to be removed and put back on indefinitely while the previous skirts are basically held on with a wing and a prayer.    With the leftover tiny scrap of fabric, I made the apron it was crying out to become.  Don’t the girls look cute in their new duds? Yes, the apron cover Barbie’s hands but I just pretend it is in the apron or skirt pocket. So yes, it is possible to make relatively cute clothes for the Barbie Micro ...

~A look back at 2022’s Barbie Extra Minis by Mattel~ Barbie Extra Minis were on store shelves in October of 2022.  I didn’t buy any to pose for photos, but I did take pictures in the store. Since I have covered several minis lately, I thought it was time to pull out the photos.   At 5 1/2 inches tall, they aren’t that “mini,” but compared to an 11 1/2 or 12” Barbie, they are smallish.  It appears they were only in stores in 2022, with a few still available online in toy stores. Cute? Maybe, but my overall impression is, “meh.” Let me know what you think in the comments below . ~ Comparing the new 3” Disney Princess Toddler dolls to Liddle Kiddles from 1965. ~   In my recent article about the new 3” mini Disney Princess Toddler dolls , I compared them to Liddle Kiddles from the 1960s. While I mentioned the Disney princesses were significantly larger, I decided a photo comparison was in order. On the left is Shirley Strawberry Cola Kiddle and on the right is Disney Princess Anna. Both are redheads with big blue eyes, and their heads are of a similar size, which is what reminded me of the Kiddles. But there the similarities end.  Shirley has fiber hair while Anna has plastic hair. Anna is roughly 1 1/2 times as tall as Shirley Kiddle and her dress is plastic whereas Shirley’s strawberry costume is made of fabric. Liddle Kiddles were first produced by  Mattel  in 1965  The little Disney Toddler princesses were released with a box date of  2024.  Both are cute as can be. Which do you prefer?   Ok, I’ll be the first to admit this house is on the small size, but I think it will be suitable for dioramas for the tiny “You Can Be Anything “ minis from Mattel. Best of all, it is found at Dollar Tree where the little minis are found. It’s too bad the price on all the Dollar Tree toys has almost doubled in the past month, but for $1.75, they are still more or less a good price.  I still prefer the more elegant Barbie Macro Collection, but these little minis are growing on me. The more little props I find for them, the more I enjoy them!   The new Barbie “You Can Be Anything” minis are out on the shelves at various Dollar-type stores, and I must say they are cute but underwhelming. I hope these are not the replacement for the Micro Collection, because they are not as tall, shapely or collectible. These tiny little figurines are designed for ages three and up—definitely don’t get them if you have younger kids, because these small dolls have “choking hazard” written all over them. However, the blind packaging is child proof and requires scissors to open. The display box says there are 16 career figures available and lists 8 of them on each side.  The blind packaging shows all 16. I purchased 3 blind bags and got two identical cooks/homemakers and a skateboarder, the last two figures shown on the bottom right of the packaging. The receipt calls the minis “Barbie Blind Bag in Display.” At $1.75, they aren’t a terribly expensive addition to your collection, and if you like cute little minis, these might be for you....
