Fashion Dolls 101

  Although Carlson dolls have an interesting history going back to 1946 when  founders Ray and Ann Carlson started the company in Maple Lake, Minnesota, they are best known for the small, hard plastic dolls they started making in t he early 1950s.  At the peak of the company's production, Carlson Dolls produced some 500 different dolls. These two sweet little pilgrim dolls above were probably produced during the heyday of  Carlson Dolls  and appear to be simple pilgrims dressed in grey with grey bow and trim.  Another set of Carlson pilgrims honors John and Priscilla Alden. These pilgrim dolls have black bows and trim. Both sets are 7- 8' tall and made of hard plastic with sleep eyes and mohair. These pilgrim dolls are adorable and perfect for a bit of Thanksgiving decor. Happy Thanksgiving! Historic, Colorful & Quaint Rag Dolls & Cloth Dolls Are Fun to Collect & Display An old and historic toy, rag dolls have been around for a long time. Made of cloth and stuffed with leftover fabric or other materials,  they are one of the oldest children's toys in existence.   Dolls made of cloth date back to antiquity.   The  British Museum  is home to a  Roman  rag doll , found in a child's grave in Egypt, dating from the 1st-5th century AD.  A collection of various rag dolls Rag dolls are still very popular today.  One only has to do a search on   Ebay  to see the myriad varieties of rag dolls, cloth dolls and plush dolls available to purchase online.   Trick or Treat? This year we are going for a Halloween treat with vintage Barbie and Skipper in their 1960s Pierrette Halloween Masquerade costumes.  The black and gold masquerade costumes are perfect for Halloween festivities, with their pointy hats, black tights, shoes and masks. Barbie and Skipper look picture perfect together .  There was a matching ensemble for Ken but I never got it, so poor Ken is left out of the Halloween picture.That's ok, because my dog, Jack, was also dressed up for Halloween and kept hopping in the picture. Although I have collected several other Halloween dolls through the years, this vintage Barbie and Skipper duo in their gold and black Masquerade outfits remain my favorite Halloween dolls. Life.Church in Oklahoma City was an antique doll-and-toy-lovers dream for Christmas ! A recent trip to Oklahoma City for the Christmas holidays brought me to Life.Church which was decorated for Christmas with antique toys in all shapes and sizes. Prominently featured in the displays were dolls of all kinds, seem standing and sitting  beneath Christmas trees as well as perched among their branches. An antique Mattel Francie doll was seen next to her mod friend, Julia, and Raggedy Anns and Andies were to be found near several trees Other antique toys were also prominently displayed around various colorful Christmas trees making Christmas at Life.Church a fun experience for old and young alike. Belle Meade Plantation Belles Doll Club host Halloween party October 7 - Nashville Doll Collecting Examiner On Thursday, October 7, the Belle Meade Plantation Belles Doll Club will hold their annual Halloween party at 7:00 PM at Shoneys in Bellevue. Members will bring their various Halloween dolls to display, and there will be a spooky Barbie haunted house on hand just for Barbie, Kelly and their friends. Not only will an assortment of Halloween doll displays be set up, but as mentioned in Zona Harris presents work of doll designer Luis Maturino at Oct. Plantation Belles Doll Club meeting , club member Zona Harris will be doing a program on the customized dolls done by doll artist Luis Maturino. Her program will focus on his Kelly dolls which are repainted and dressed to look like vintage Barbie dolls .
