Fashion Dolls 101

Previously published on March 28 Because I am fascinated with these little plastic figures of Jesus that keep turning up everywhere, I ordered my own set to hand out. I have collected quite a few figures in stores but I hadn’t seen this style before.  These little figures have a fancier, fuller sash that comes in red, yellow, green, teal, and hot pink  The Jesus figure has a yellow (gold) halo and a yellow (golden) cross   Because my church is getting ready for our big Easter egg hunt, I figured I would donate some of these little plastic figures to go in the colorful plastic eggs. But I am definitely keeping a set for myself! Easter is just around the corner! These are so cute stuffed in Easter eggs!

All six of the little Jesus figures I have found  Ok, I admit it. I have fallen in love with these little Jesus figures and am thrilled on the rare occasions when I find one. I found one with a brown sash right before Christmas at Dollar Tree and one with a blue sash just last week at the sign-in book at a nursing home, which was a little spark of joy in a place that sometimes lacks much joy. Found at a Dollar Tree cash register  in Nashville.  The first few I found looked identical but now that I have several, I am starting to notice the small variations. Two have raised letters the say “Jesus ❤️ You.” On the rest the words are printed flat. One has nothing written on the sash at all. One is slightly taller and with paler skin. And several have different color sashes.  Only two of my little Jesus figures are identical, so I plan to leave one of them somewhere for someone else to find. My church does an Easter egg hunt, so I will probably slip my extra Jesus in an E...

Well, I had no sooner detoxed my new bargain Martha on the Mantel “elf” doll when we had our first snow of the season, and it was a BIG one. And here was Martha with her new snow duds, so there was only one thing to do: let her go out in the frozen white stuff.  Here she is with the skating outfit prior to deboxing.  It was too cold to be very creative, (it hit 5°) so here you have two slightly different angles with slightly different lighting. However, I think we can agree that Martha looks fashionable as always in her skating ensemble!  Martha on the Mantel— fashion plate, even in the snow

I love traditional Christmas elves but the new celebrity elves that keep cropping up occasionally are not really my cup of tea. However, when my local Walmart had these left over after Christmas and marked down substantially— I couldn’t help myself. I picked one up plus the one remaining wardrobe accessory.  Now, if you were to say she looks awkward, I would agree. Not too Christmassy? Agreed. And yet… I am still looking forward to taking her out of her box to put her with my Christmas elf display next year. She may not really be a holiday tradition, but she might be a fun addition.  I’m going to give Martha on the Mantel the benefit of the doubt.

~ Looking for something cute? Check out Barbie Minis at Dollar Tree for $1.25. ~  OK. Mattel got me. I found these adorable mini Barbies with varying body styles. At first I just got the three Caucasian figures with the more basic body styles. Then I went back for the black one and the chubby one which were the last two on the shelves at my local Dollar Tree.  .For just $1.25 at Dollar Tree, I should have bought them all, because I might have missed one by waiting.  I couldn’t wait to take them out of the package, and I immediately bought them a $1.25 tropical plant to pose with— Money well spent!  Then I ended up at another Dollar Tree 60 miles away a couple of days later, and what did I find? All the minis I said no to before plus some cute Monster High minis   So I grabbed the black one in the yellow dress and one of the Monster Highs and now I am kicking myself for not getting the heavy-set blonde (I thought I already had that one) and the odd one with ...

M any magazines and organizations award women their prestigious Woman of the Year Awards , usually in the spring, to honor females who have broken glass ceilings and contributed significantly to their respective industries, regions, etc.  But a recent trend has been to name MEN as “Woman of the Year,” as long as they wear a dress and call themselves a women.  Males Winning Woman of the Year In 2014, Time awarded their “Woman of the Year” award to Roderick “Laverne” Cox. Glamour Magazine also manawarded their 2014 “Woman of the Year” honors to Cox. Move over Elon Musk, Taylor Swift, and whoever else pretends to run the world—because Hello Kitty just landed the cover of Time Magazine for her 50th anniversary, and she didn’t even say a word to get there. That’s right. The iconic, mouthless feline from Japan has reached half a century of silently conquering the planet, one overpriced pencil case at a time, and let’s be honest—if silence is golden, Hello Kitty is basically Fort Knox. Who is Hello Kitty? For those who don’t know, Hello Kitty’s real name is Kitty White. She is an 8-year-old British girl who looks like a cat created by Sanrio in 1974. She's known for her red bow and not having a visible mouth. She’s five apples tall, weighs three apples, and has a twin sister—none of whom have aged a day since disco was cool. Botox? No. It’s just the power of kawaii. The Time Magazine Special Edition covers her global reign, why America loves her, plus her friends and family. She’s Not a Cat Though often mistaken for an anthropomorp...

Minecraft recently made the cover of Time magazine.  Related: Minecraft Figures Meet Frozen's Elsa and Anna Minecraft Figures Travel Through Oklahoma A Very Minecraft Christmas Barbie Pez Dispensers
