Fashion Dolls 101

  In the early part of the 21st century, I bought a pilgrim girl nutcracker, hiding behind the tall pilgrim man. Around the same time, I got a pair of Carlson pilgrim dolls, (lower left in front) . This started a small but beloved collection of pilgrim dolls and figures.  Since then I have added the occasional resin figure and I started collecting a few of the Publix Lilgrims (lower right in the front). Why Pilgrims? If you know the  History  of  Thanksgiving , you know how courageous and persistent the Pilgrims were, surviving a perilous sea voyage, landing in a strange land with no shelter except what they could build and no crops except what would grow from the seeds they planted, and then surviving starvation and illness as their numbers dwindled.  It seems like only yesterday that we were celebrating Barbie’s 50th anniversary, but that was 15 years ago! Now we are celebrating the pink plastic princess’s 65th anniversary   For Barbie’s 65th birthday, Mattel has come out with a line of pink-box re-imagined Fashionista dolls based upon popular Barbie dolls through the years. From Barbie’s iconic zebra print swimsuit to Black Barbie, this new collection is a nostalgic trip down memory lane. The set even includes a Western Ken.  The Fashionistas put their own modern spin on vintage styles to try to make them relevant again.  I think the black Barbie fashionista captures her 1980 vintage  inspiration the best.  And the 1992 Totally Hair Barbie looks good in her new incarnation.  And, of course, we can’t forget the homage paid to the original 1959 Barbie doll who started it all   Some of them didn’t fully capture their counterparts, but all in all, it’s a cute collection at pink box prices  ...

 Is there anything more colorful than autumn? 🍂  Yes! Fall trolls! These cute little guys are as colorful as fall, and they are clearly enjoying the season. ~ Paris Hilton is the first ever Premium Edition Collector Doll ~  I am late to the party but the Paris Hilton Doll doll is on sale at Walmart—on sale for a whopping $99! Who has money to spend on a cheap, disproportionate looking doll like this? I sure don’t! The doll is dressed in a pink blazer and rhinestone-emblazoned dress, inspired by the ensemble Paris wore for her 21st birthday. The doll comes with accessories including a jewelry, a tiara, handbag, cellphone, and what’s supposed to be a pomeranian based on Paris’ dog Mr. Amazing. This white pup is the first dog to be featured with a Rainbow High doll. Had they chosen a company that would make the doll with the proportions of a Moxie Teenz doll, she might have been cute; she could have kept the big head on a slightly larger body and been a hit. But they chose to go with a Rainbow High doll and ended up with a lumpy, overpriced doll on SALE for $99, and plenty to choose from at that price.  If the doll drops down to mayb...

~ Snoop on the Stoop Accessories at Walmart ~   I reported on the 2024 edition of Snoop on the Stoop, but o saw the accessories for the first time today at Walmart. I’m not sure how long the Snoop elf has had his own line of couture, but what I saw today had a certain charm. Elf-sized sweaters, gift bags, ornaments and other goodies are available in the Snoop on the Stoop elf collection.  Snoop shared a shelf with Martha on the Mantle a week ago, but there were no Martha’s left, and Snoop elves were running low.  Michael’s just sent out their latest promotional email, and it is elftastic. The flyer announce that Shenanigan season is here and is full of colorful images of everyone’s favorite elf   Featured products include the Santaverse elf door which opens a magic door to the North Pole.   There is also plenty of inspiration your Scout elf’s creative set up with Claus Couture, and cute elf pets.  The 2024 Michael’s exclusive Elf on the Shelf accessory is the Elf Pets Polar Props DIY Sweet Truck. Elf on the Shelf may be falling out of favor  with some parents, but there is no need to let your Elf get the better of you.   Not too long ago, Walmart put their Dreamworks Trolls on sale for $5.97, so I decided to grab one. I never saw the movie, but I collected Russ trolls as a little girl, so I have occasionally added a thrift store troll to my collection through the years after losing all the ones I had as a child. Also, being a fan of the Pink Plastic Princess means the Mattel label on the package didn’t hurt, so I nabbed the pink girl troll.    The box date is 2023 and the packaging says “Dreamworks Trolls Band Together.” Related : Mouse in the House Caters to Kids Elf on the Shelf Falling Out of Favor ?  Martha on the Mantle, Snoop on the Stoop & Trump Elves for the Holidays  Move over Elf on the Shelf. You are not the only elf in the house anymore!  Snoop on the Stoop appeared a few years ago and has achieved enough popularity to come back every year.  New this year are Martha on the Mantle (available at Walmart) and the Trump Elf from Proud Patriots  Since  Elf on the Shelf is falling out of favor  with some parents, maybe it’s time to consider a new elf. The Martha Stewart elf is a holiday tradition. The Snoop elf is a hood tradition.   November is the month for voting and Veteran’s Day and Groovy girl’s Vanessa was ready. Made in 2002 by Manhattan Toy Company, Vanessa is a cloth plush doll that comes with curly red yarn hair, an embroidered face, and wears a red, white and blue outfit. Her red top has an American flag embroidered on it, Her blue denim skirt is trimmed with a red and white bandana print, her leggings are white stars on a blue background, and her sewn on boots are red fringe.  Vanessa  bring some fun and whimsy to any holiday, not just November.
