The Doll Who Became President: Donald J. Trump Talking Doll

While doll companies frequently make dolls of former Presidents, such as GI Joe's Dwight D. Eisenhower and the Franklin Mint's John F. Kennedy figures, it is unique in the world of doll collecting that a doll character became president after the fact. Such is the case with the Stevenson Entertainment Group's Donald J. Trump Talking Doll. The closest competition would be Arnold Schwarzenegger who was exploring a run for president in 2013 and who has action figures in his likeness.

However, the Donald J. Trump Talking Doll is historic. On this Election Eve 2020, I thought it would be fun to take a look at this iconic doll.

The Donald Trump dolls was made in 2004 during the time period when Trump was starring on the popular reality show, "The Apprentice." The show has run in various formats across fifteen seasons since January 2004 on NBC, most recently in 2017, but was most popular during the 14 seasons Trump hosted it. Interestingly, Arnold Schwarzenegger took Trump's place for season 15 when Trump left the show.

The Donald J. Trump Talking Doll says 17 phrases that were lines spoken by Donald Trump on the show. Some of the Trump doll sayings include:

  • "I have no choice but to tell you you're fired."
  • "I should fire myself for having you around."
  • "This one's easy for me... you're fired."
  • "That was a rough one."
  • "Think big and live large."
  • "Never give up...under any circumstances never give up."

Wearing a black business suite, plus white shirt and red tie, the doll features Trump's famous side parted thick shock of sandy hair and unmistakable profile.

The Donald J. Trump Talking Doll is an interesting addition to any doll collection. I sold mine on eBay while President Trump was running for office for $48 and then bought another one for $28 when I had seller's remorse a few weeks later. I am really glad I replaced it!
