Image
Life.Church in Oklahoma City was an antique doll-and-toy-lovers dream for Christmas ! A recent trip to Oklahoma City for the Christmas holidays brought me to Life.Church which was decorated for Christmas with antique toys in all shapes and sizes. Prominently featured in the displays were dolls of all kinds, seem standing and sitting  beneath Christmas trees as well as perched among their branches. An antique Mattel Francie doll was seen next to her mod friend, Julia, and Raggedy Anns and Andies were to be found near several trees Other antique toys were also prominently displayed around various colorful Christmas trees making Christmas at Life.Church a fun experience for old and young alike. Six Reasons Not to Date a Serious Gamer

Image
Since gaming, toys, dolls and action figures often overlap, here is a humorous look at what dating a serious gamer is like and why you should avoid the experience.. True confession: I once dated a serious gamer. For over a year. He wanted to teach me to game. I wanted to show him the sights in Nashville. So of course we spent most of our relationship in front of a monitor playing video games, or at least he did.   Read about  the lessons I learned dating a gamer here: Top 6 Reasons Not to Date a Serious Gamer Ask me how you can doll yourself up with amazing clinical skincare products and start your way to clearer, healthier skin today! World's Smallest Barbie Dolls

Image
First of all, this is not the smallest Barbie in the world unless they mean "currently on the market!" Smaller Barbies have been produces for Hallmark ornaments as well as a Barbie doll Skipper once owned, to name a couple. However, these little "World's Smallest Barbie" miniatures are cute and they might very well be the smallest Barbies on the market right now at about 3" tall. The little retro fashion dolls made by Super Impulse Toys come with tiny sunglasses. I only saw two--the original 1959 Barbie doll and the 1971 Malibu Barbie.  These were for sale at Toys R Us for $4.99.  They are also available on Amazon .The little cuties are definitely worth a look! Image
A visit to see the lavish Dressing Downton: Changing Fashion for Changing Times exhibit  at Cheekwood Mansion in Nashville  promised to be a day of  fashion and histor y. What I didn't expect was to find cute Downton Abbey dressed bears as well as small doll-sized accessories from the 1930s! Downton Abbey bears photo (c) Kathryn Darden The set of three bears was displayed twice, so here are both displays so you get the bears at two different angles.  Small accessories included small serving pieces and small hats of the era made into what may have been pin cushions but just begged to be reassembled atop some lucky doll's head! Doll-sized accessories  photo (c) Kathryn Darden If Dressing Downton comes to your area and there is a gift shop involved, check it out. Minecraft Tribes Coming in May

Image
NEW MINECRAFT MOD IN BETA TESTING I have done several articles on Minecraft toys and figures which is what this blog is about, as well as a book review, but I thought I would take a moment to introduce the new and innovative Minecraft Tribes mod. This version of the popular game is designed for players who enjoy the mining, building and engineering aspects of Minecraft but also enjoy the excitement and challenge of an occasional battle or raid. Tribes PvP allows you to put your creations to the test in a rigorous PvP environment. Whether you use walls, castles, or booby traps, the only rule is war. While the only rule may be war, there are incentives to build beautiful towns or castles as well protection for your base from attacks when you are not present to defend it. Beta Testing is underway now. The new Minecraft Tribes mod will be available in May 2017 . Check out  http://minecrafttribes.com/  for details. Visit me at  Doll Collecting Examiner  Related: Minec

Multiple Minecraft Figures Mean More Fun

Image
As promised last month, here is the 3rd and maybe final installment in my Minecraft figures series. Mojang has put out a variety of toys and figures in the Minecraft world, and there are assorted sizes to chose from as well as a plethora of characters to chose from, everything from the main characters, Steve and Alex, to a wide variety of mobs - the animals and monsters that inhabit the world of Minecraft. Assortments range from the cute little minis, found in mystery boxes and packages of three, to three inch figures found in at least two series of assorted creepers, villagers, and heroes, to the larger action figures of Alex and Steve and their friends. There are even Lego building sets so you can build your little figures their own Minecraft world! If you enjoy Minecraft or know someone who does, these little figures and builds are sure to entertain. Minecraft Secrets:Totally Awesome Builds Book Review

Image
Strolling through my local Walgreen's clearance section, I came upon two Minecraft figures and the book Minecraft Secrets:Totally Awesome Builds  marked down low, so of course I snapped them all up. The Minecraft Secrets book was only $2 and looked colorful, so I figured I had very little to lose, even though it is the unofficial guide. After all, according to the book's cover, "Minecraft is the world's hottest game!" I plan to do an article on the small figures soon for this blog but thought I would mention the book as a resource for anyone who enjoys the game or the figures.  Minecraft Secrets:Totally Awesome Builds  does not quite live up to its name but it full of useful info for the Minecraft beginner. Having watched a long-time gamer play Minecraft and build a computer that adds among other advanced contraptions, this book appeared very elementary, and the pictures were often small and somewhat dark. In addition, there were no instructions o

Minecraft Dolls & Action Figures

If you have kids, more than likely you have heard about Minecraft, the computer game where kids build with dirt, wood and stone and dig for gold, iron, diamonds, emeralds and other gems. A growing number of players stay with the game into their late teens and early 20s, and gamer guys find Minecraft a good way to get their girlfriends into gaming. Developed  by Swedish game designer Markus Persson in 2009, and later fully fleshed out and published by Mojang, Microsoft  announced it was buying Mojang and  Minecraft   in 2014. Minecraft's popularity has spawned a number of dolls and action figure during it's popular run which appear in various toy and department stores every year. Here are a few currently available.
