More Thanksgiving dolls & Pilgrim figurines make colorful Thanksgiving doll displays (with sideshow)

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009
Thanksgiving is almost here!Looking at the colorful figurines above, it is hard to believe that Pilgrims are often depicted in modern culture as dour and overly pious people with long faces and drab black outfits. However, these early colonists who came to America to escape religious persecution wore bright colors: including reds, yellows, purples and greens as well as black and grey. Such colorful garments and the associated hats, aprons, collars and caps make Pilgrim dolls and figurines a charming accent for Thanksgiving decorating.

Thanksgiving Barbie Dolls
Thanksgiving is right around the corner, so it is time to take a look at the holiday from a doll's point of view! I doubt when William Bradford issued the first Thanksgiving Day proclamation in November of 1623, that he ever considered the possibility of Barbie dolls dressed as Pilgrims being sold for Thanksgiving. However, in 1994, Mattel released a pretty Pilgrim Barbie doll as part of their American Stories Collection....

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Some of these displays take on a life of their own as collectors add miniature furnishings, accessories and decorations, creating entire intricate dioramas around a holiday theme. This week doll collectors are putting the finishing touches on their Halloween doll displays. ...

Amy Grant's Second Annual Amy Grant & Friends Yard Sale
Amy Grant hosted her Second Annual Amy Grant Yard Sale October 24 at David Lipscomb University in Nashville. It had all the usual paraphernalia you would expect at a yard sale - just more of it as there were about 14 tents and maybe 80 tables of merchandise altogether. However, among the piles of plates, glassware and linens, a blond Barbie - a very naked blond Barbie - lay on a table marked "Gill" along with a naked Bratz doll and an equally unclothed Ariel (the Little Mermaid) doll. This is her story...
