Belle Meade Plantation Belles Doll Club December Meeting
The Belle Meade Plantation Belles Doll Club held their annual December meeting and Christmas party on December 2, 2010. Every year the Nashville club holds a Christmas party for their December meeting, so the tables were decorated with holiday dolls including Barbie dolls and Disney dolls.
When the Golden Age of Doll Couture convention came to Nashville recently, a few dolls were designed just for the Nashville show. One of the prettiest was not even a new design, but was a special dye job just for the event. In honor of the Madra doll's 10th anniversary, the Doll Couture convention even had a few of the very limited edition Careless Kisses Madra outfits (sometimes called "Stolen Kisses") dyed a soft pink just for their table displays.
Resin Pilgrim figurines have become popular Thanksgiving holiday decor in the past few years as we remember the brave Pilgrims who came to America and established the first official Thanksgiving in 1621, at Plymouth Plantation, in Massachusetts. These colorful Pilgrim figures can be found in a wide variety of stores, from florists, to grocery stores and from craft stores to gift stores.
I was recently in a party story at Nashville West on Charlotte Pike and found a delicate raffia trim in a perfect scale to make Gene, Tyler and similar 16" sized dolls a Hawaiian or Polynesian grass skirt. Raffia palms are native to tropical regions of Africa, and Central and South America and grow the longest leaves in the plant kingdom. The long, fibrous leaves are sturdy and flexible and great for grass skirts if you can find it in the right scale.
The Belle Meade Plantation Belles Doll Club celebrated Thanksgiving on November 4, 2010 at their monthly meeting at Shoneys in Bellevue. Although there were not as many doll displays as usual, there were still a variety of dolls to be seen including an African-American Avon Rose Splendor Barbie, two vintage Barbie dolls, and a small display of assorted Pilgrim dolls.
