Fashion Dolls 101

  Well, I had no sooner detoxed my new bargain Martha on the Mantel “elf” doll when we had our first snow of the season, and it was a BIG one. And here was Martha with her new snow duds, so there was only one thing to do: let her go out in the frozen white stuff.  Here she is with the skating outfit prior to deboxing.  It was too cold to be very creative, (it hit 5°) so here you have two slightly different angles with slightly different lighting. However, I think we can agree that Martha looks fashionable as always in her skating ensemble!  Martha on the Mantel— fashion plate, even in the snow  

 I love traditional Christmas elves but the new celebrity elves that keep cropping up occasionally are not really my cup of tea. However, when my local Walmart had these left over after Christmas and marked down substantially— I couldn’t help myself. I picked one up plus the one remaining wardrobe accessory.  Now, if you were to say she looks awkward, I would agree. Not too Christmassy? Agreed. And yet… I am still looking forward to taking her out of her box to put her with my Christmas elf display next year. She may not really be a holiday tradition, but she might be a fun addition.  I’m going to give Martha on the Mantel the benefit of the doubt.

 Michael’s just sent out their latest promotional email, and it is elftastic. The flyer announce that Shenanigan season is here and is full of colorful images of everyone’s favorite elf   Featured products include the Santaverse elf door which opens a magic door to the North Pole.   There is also plenty of inspiration your Scout elf’s creative set up with Claus Couture, and cute elf pets.  The 2024 Michael’s exclusive Elf on the Shelf accessory is the Elf Pets Polar Props DIY Sweet Truck. Elf on the Shelf may be falling out of favor  with some parents, but there is no need to let your Elf get the better of you.   The Christmas season is here! The plush and soft-bodied little elves have been waiting all year to come out and help decorate the tree.  From left to right we have two plush Elf on the Shelf dolls , a Dollar Tree elf, plush Mariah Carey “All I Want for Christmas, ” a generic Walmart Elf, and two dolls sold on EBay as Elf on the Shelf that I suspect might be knock offs.  I still dressed the possible knockoff girl elf in an authentic Elf on the Shelf outfit so she matches the plush Elf on the Shelf doll.  The Legend of the Elf The elf legend seems to have come from Norse mythology which mentions the “hidden folk.” This Norse character combined with other Scandinavian and Celtic legends about elves, wee folk and other mythical creatures became today’s elf. My husband's aunt Sherri sewed me a wonderful, colorful reindeer for Christmas this year, complete with halter and little jingle bells, that has already become a family heirloom. I love it, but it was quickly stolen from me by my Elf on the Shelf doll. The clever elf climbed up on the reindeer and locked his arms around the deer's antlers and simply won't let go.  I admitted defeat and let the elf have his reindeer. I'm not really too sorry about it. They do look mighty cute together. In fact, they match pretty well. It looks like they were almost made for each other. So Elf on the Shelf gets a Christmas reindeer and I get a cute holiday display! Merry Christmas from Fashion Dolls 101!
