Fashion Dolls 101

While doll companies frequently make dolls of former Presidents, such as GI Joe's Dwight D. Eisenhower and the Franklin Mint's John F. Kennedy figures, it is unique in the world of doll collecting that a doll character became president after the fact. Such is the case with the Stevenson Entertainment Group's Donald J. Trump Talking Doll. The closest competition would be Arnold  Schwarzenegger who was exploring a run for president in 2013 and who has action figures in his likeness.  However, the Donald J. Trump Talking Doll is historic. On this Election Eve 2020, I thought it would be fun to take a look at this iconic doll.  The Donald Trump dolls was made in 2004 during the time period when Trump was starring on the popular reality show, "The Apprentice."  The show has run in various formats across fifteen seasons since January 2004 on  NBC , most recently in 2017, but was most popular during the 14 seasons Trump hosted it. A visit to see the lavish Dressing Downton: Changing Fashion for Changing Times exhibit  at Cheekwood Mansion in Nashville  promised to be a day of  fashion and histor y. What I didn't expect was to find cute Downton Abbey dressed bears as well as small doll-sized accessories from the 1930s! Downton Abbey bears photo (c) Kathryn Darden The set of three bears was displayed twice, so here are both displays so you get the bears at two different angles.  Small accessories included small serving pieces and small hats of the era made into what may have been pin cushions but just begged to be reassembled atop some lucky doll's head! OK, I'll admit it, Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse" is NOT about dolls! Well, it sort of is. It is a television series that aired on FOX called "Dollhouse" and it is about beautiful (and handsome) dolls... only that is a nickname for actives, and, well it gets complicated! "Dollhouse" is an addictive sci-fi, thriller that sucks the viewer in with action, fantasy, and beautiful actors in season one, hinting at something deeper which is revealed in season two. Eliza Dushku starred in the series which is now out on DVD, and she is definitely a doll. I thought I would share the "Dollhouse" DVD season 1 and 2 review here, just for fun! Patricia Alice Albrecht, the Voice of Pizzazz on "Jem and the Holograms" to Speak at Local Doll Club Sept 1 Patricia Alice Albrecht, best-known as the voice of Pizzazz on the 1980s animated television program Jem & The Holograms, will be the special guest speaker at the September meeting of the Belle Meade Plantation Belles Doll Club. The meeting is free for first-time visitors and guests are welcome to attend. Jem and the Holograms was a colorful line of rock 'n roll dolls which began production in 1985. The Jem dolls  launched the animated television series that ran from 1985 to 1988. The "Jem and the Holograms" television show, which was based on the doll characters and follows the adventures of Jem and her rival Pizzazz, is still in syndication today.
