Christmas joy fills the air in many worlds including the world of Minecraft. Steve and Alex and their friends have been busy decking the halls and trimming the trees. Almost any figures look cute when paired with colorful, miniature Christmas trees, and the denizens of Minecraft are no exception. Steve has donne a Christmas cap to keep his head warm while Alex says her Christmas green shirt is good enough for her. A villager has dropped by to wish then season's greetings. The creeper is even trying to get in on the celebration, hoping to end the party with a BANG! Tragically, the day after their Christmas party Alex was captured by a new mob, the Claw, and was waiting for Steve to rescue her just in time for Christmas. My hero! Steve Carrell and assortment of fashion dolls stars in the quirky, cute and somewhat politically correct movie “Welcome to Marwen.” After a brutal attack by five men, Mark Hogancamp is left crippled emotionally and physically. With many of his memories lost and unable to draw because of his injuries, Mark picks up his camera and begins to reconstruct his memories and his life by taking photos of dolls. These photos reinact scenes from his broken memories and his dreams and take him on a cathartic journey into a new chance at life. The movie follows Mark’s staging and photographing doll dioramas, constructed in the elaborate town of Marwen Belgium he has constructed in his back yard. As he sets up the photos, the dolls come to life to tell the story through Mark’s imagination. Sadly, the Toys R Us chain of big-box toy stores is closing across the nation. The only perk in this sorry chain of events is the fact that toys and dolls are 50 - 70 % off in the few stores that are still in the process of closing. This means the handful of Minecraft toys that are left are now 60% or more off the original price. Mincraft figures make for fun winter dioramas. I chose the colorful 3" Minecraft figures for these two shots. The first diorama was done for the Minecraft Tribes page on Facebook and was made using a small indoor herb garden and miniature Christmas trees. Alex holds a redstone flare since she doesn't have a Christmas candle while Steve holds a sword to ward off the Creeper and Slime mobs who have invited themselves to the Christmas party. The second scene was obviously shot in the snow to capture the snowy biome experience. Alex guards the TNT and a Villager works at his anvil in front of Steve's winter pagoda while the Creeper and the Slime plan mischief around the corner. NEW MINECRAFT MOD IN BETA TESTING I have done several articles on Minecraft toys and figures which is what this blog is about, as well as a book review, but I thought I would take a moment to introduce the new and innovative Minecraft Tribes mod. This version of the popular game is designed for players who enjoy the mining, building and engineering aspects of Minecraft but also enjoy the excitement and challenge of an occasional battle or raid. Tribes PvP allows you to put your creations to the test in a rigorous PvP environment. Whether you use walls, castles, or booby traps, the only rule is war. While the only rule may be war, there are incentives to build beautiful towns or castles as well protection for your base from attacks when you are not present to defend it.  As promised last month, here is the 3rd and maybe final installment in my Minecraft figures series. Mojang has put out a variety of toys and figures in the Minecraft world, and there are assorted sizes to chose from as well as a plethora of characters to chose from, everything from the main characters, Steve and Alex, to a wide variety of mobs - the animals and monsters that inhabit the world of Minecraft. Assortments range from the cute little minis, found in mystery boxes and packages of three, to three inch figures found in at least two series of assorted creepers, villagers, and heroes, to the larger action figures of Alex and Steve and their friends. There are even Lego building sets so you can build your little figures their own Minecraft world! If you have kids, more than likely you have heard about Minecraft, the computer game where kids build with dirt, wood and stone and dig for gold, iron, diamonds, emeralds and other gems. A growing number of players stay with the game into their late teens and early 20s, and gamer guys find Minecraft a good way to get their girlfriends into gaming. Developed  by Swedish game designer Markus Persson in 2009, and later fully fleshed out and published by Mojang, Microsoft  announced it was buying Mojang and  Minecraft   in 2014.
