Fashion Dolls 101

  Well, I had no sooner detoxed my new bargain Martha on the Mantel “elf” doll when we had our first snow of the season, and it was a BIG one. And here was Martha with her new snow duds, so there was only one thing to do: let her go out in the frozen white stuff.  Here she is with the skating outfit prior to deboxing.  It was too cold to be very creative, (it hit 5°) so here you have two slightly different angles with slightly different lighting. However, I think we can agree that Martha looks fashionable as always in her skating ensemble!  Martha on the Mantel— fashion plate, even in the snow  

 I love traditional Christmas elves but the new celebrity elves that keep cropping up occasionally are not really my cup of tea. However, when my local Walmart had these left over after Christmas and marked down substantially— I couldn’t help myself. I picked one up plus the one remaining wardrobe accessory.  Now, if you were to say she looks awkward, I would agree. Not too Christmassy? Agreed. And yet… I am still looking forward to taking her out of her box to put her with my Christmas elf display next year. She may not really be a holiday tradition, but she might be a fun addition.  I’m going to give Martha on the Mantel the benefit of the doubt.

  You can’t deny it! It’s beginning to look a LOT like Christmas all over town, and the Barbie Micro Minis have been decorating and getting ready for Christmas 2025.  From hanging lights to hanging a wreath and putting out the festive decorations, this little town is ready for Christmas.  Michael’s has been busy decking the halls since the end of September, so it is no surprise that it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at everyone’s favorite craft store.  Hot off the truck are the nutcrackers, in all shapes and sizes and in a bunch of  styles. They are colorful, whimsical and fun.  Also just added are the multi-cultural Santa’s. There are cowboys, chefs and a whole lot more, and they come in small, medium and large… and life size! And if miniature is your thing, the cute Lemox village is up! So take a sleigh ride to your local Michael’s to check out all the holiday goodies. The holidays have landed at Michael’s stores! Employees have been busy decking the aisles with holiday goodies since the last week of September. Finally, some of the holiday figures are on display!   ~ Cute 2023 Christmas Nutcrackers Now at Michaels ~  The cute holiday nutcrackers are now on display at Michael’s, and it is quite an assortment!   The Christmas season is here! The plush and soft-bodied little elves have been waiting all year to come out and help decorate the tree.  From left to right we have two plush Elf on the Shelf dolls , a Dollar Tree elf, plush Mariah Carey “All I Want for Christmas, ” a generic Walmart Elf, and two dolls sold on EBay as Elf on the Shelf that I suspect might be knock offs.  I still dressed the possible knockoff girl elf in an authentic Elf on the Shelf outfit so she matches the plush Elf on the Shelf doll.  The Legend of the Elf The elf legend seems to have come from Norse mythology which mentions the “hidden folk.” This Norse character combined with other Scandinavian and Celtic legends about elves, wee folk and other mythical creatures became today’s elf. Rag dolls are  dolls traditionally home-made from spare scraps of cloth and other materials. The faces are usually painted or sewn on. According to Wikipedia, they are one of the oldest children's toys in existence.  I recently came across these two charmers left by the side of the road in Oklahoma City on Big Trash Day. Although I do own a couple of rag dolls, I don't really collect them, but I couldn't abandon these two cuties there, so I rescued them. One is a fanciful Halloween doll with straw hair, and the other is a festive Christmas doll with wool hair, clutching her own small doll in one hand. Once I got the girls home, I discovered they were signed and tagged. The dolls were signed in 1995 and 1996 by Jeannie Dibble. One tag is Dibble's own tag and the other is from a store in Stillwater called Kottage Shoppe which sold country crafts made in Oklahoma.  I couldn't find any more info on Dibble Dolls online, but I did find a reference to Barbara Murat of Fle...

My husband's aunt Sherri sewed me a wonderful, colorful reindeer for Christmas this year, complete with halter and little jingle bells, that has already become a family heirloom. I love it, but it was quickly stolen from me by my Elf on the Shelf doll. The clever elf climbed up on the reindeer and locked his arms around the deer's antlers and simply won't let go.  I admitted defeat and let the elf have his reindeer. I'm not really too sorry about it. They do look mighty cute together. In fact, they match pretty well. It looks like they were almost made for each other. So Elf on the Shelf gets a Christmas reindeer and I get a cute holiday display! Merry Christmas from Fashion Dolls 101! Christmas joy fills the air in many worlds including the world of Minecraft. Steve and Alex and their friends have been busy decking the halls and trimming the trees. Almost any figures look cute when paired with colorful, miniature Christmas trees, and the denizens of Minecraft are no exception. Steve has donne a Christmas cap to keep his head warm while Alex says her Christmas green shirt is good enough for her. A villager has dropped by to wish then season's greetings. The creeper is even trying to get in on the celebration, hoping to end the party with a BANG! Tragically, the day after their Christmas party Alex was captured by a new mob, the Claw, and was waiting for Steve to rescue her just in time for Christmas. My hero! Life.Church in Oklahoma City was an antique doll-and-toy-lovers dream for Christmas ! A recent trip to Oklahoma City for the Christmas holidays brought me to Life.Church which was decorated for Christmas with antique toys in all shapes and sizes. Prominently featured in the displays were dolls of all kinds, seem standing and sitting  beneath Christmas trees as well as perched among their branches.
